The sympathetic stings are tuned according to notes in the raga to be performed. The Sarod is held on the lap of the cross -legged performer. The fingers of the left hand are used to press the strings down and slide along the fingerboard while the strings are plucked with triangular plucktrum.
Sarangi is one of the oldest bowed instruments. The body is hollow and made of teak wood decorated with ivory inlays.
